I have not seen much input from the Hispanic community concerning the right to vote!
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
— Fifteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (1870)
Universal suffrage — letting everyone vote — did not appear overnight with the ratification of our Constitution. Two hundred years ago, you had to be white, male, and wealthy in order to vote.
Now, our great county allows all free speech and the opportunity to help shape our lives, those of our families, our children and their children for generations to come. Whether ones candidate's win or lose, remember when the polls open on Election Days, citizens over the age of 18 have the PRIVILEGE to cast a vote. It is a right we take for granted, one that defines our nation as a Democracy.
In the late 1800s, people in many parts of the world decided to leave their homes and immigrate to the United States. Fleeing crop failure, land and job shortages, rising taxes, and famine, many came to the U. S. because it was perceived as the land of economic opportunity. Others came seeking personal freedom or relief from political and religious persecution. With hope for a brighter future, nearly 12 million immigrants arrived in the United States between 1870 and the early 1900's. Throughout history, legal immigration has brought, energy, ideas, and diversity to our country, our economy and our culture!
I believe that immigration is more essential than ever as The United States must continue serving as a haven for all people seeking to become law abiding legal residents or citizens. While striving towards a better future, immigrants are needed to work hard, provide for their families, pay tax's and become part of the FINANCIAL FORCE that will expand and thus restore our economy. Citizens must get involved, and vote for candidates that are willing to work toward immigration solution's which will promote harmony and peace of mind for all!
Please review the Republican and Democratic and other political platforms to help decide what you think is best for America!
We need Latino's to contribute, be a force in our economy and become part of the future success of our UNITED STATES!
