NEW YORK, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- This December, Coors Brewing Company will team up with one of the Northeast's largest Latino non-profit organizations, Hispanic Federation, for the first time to supply food to New York and New Jersey families in need. The program, Cena en el Barrio, strives to bridge the economic gap during the holiday season by providing food baskets to 1,500 families who are struggling financially.
"Giving back to communities where we do business is something we take seriously at Coors Brewing Company. We are proud to sponsor this program which puts a holiday meal on a table that might have otherwise have been less abundant," said Rafael Fantauzzi, Coors Brewing Company corporate relations manager. "Cena en el Barrio is our way of saying happy holidays to the community and being a good neighbor to New York and New Jersey families in need."
Coors will provide $40,000 to Hispanic Federation for even distribution among three of its agency members in New York and New Jersey including Musica Against Drugs in Brooklyn, Rain Inc. in the Bronx, and La Casa De Don Pedro in Newark. The non-profits will use the donations to purchase food for distribution to 1,500 existing clients.
"This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for all our member agencies to partake in the season of giving," said Lillian Rodriguez-Lopez, newly appointed president of Hispanic Federation. "Coors approached us with this program and we are fortunate to have this opportunity to assist our members in providing some relief for our community during difficult economic times."
Coors Brewing Company, in conjunction with Manhattan Distributors in New York and Peerless Beverage in New Jersey, will provide company volunteers and 1,500 bags for food distribution. They will join volunteers from Hispanic Federation and each agency to sort and distribute food baskets. Each food basket will include varied holiday food items to feed a family of four to six people for a day.
"We're pleased to work with Coors on a program that benefits our local community," said Ender Berrios of Manhattan Beer Distributors. "This program provides a direct and positive impact on our community. Everyone should have enough to eat, especially during the holiday season."
Food items can be donated between November 29 and December 15. To identify local drop-off locations, call Hispanic Federation toll-free at 1-866-HF-AYUDA.
