about me
I wanted to be the first Puerto Rican astronaut. Through Civil Air Patrol I learned to fly an airplane before I learned to drive a car. I earned my pilot license in 1979. In 1978 I applied to be an astronaut when women were finally allowed to apply to NASA. I didn't make it but I did eyewitness human space exploration history at NASA-JSC. Now I am sharing my experiences as a public speaker. CNN iReport vetted several of my photographs for their space shuttle coverage. My parents and grandparents were born in Puerto Rico. My parents grew up in the Harlem section of New York City. I am researching family history through photographs, documents, genealogy, and DNA test results. Many explorers shared my surname. I connect with the explorers for the past 500 years with my interest in human space exploration.

I was born in New York City -- Manhattan. I was the middle daughter of three. We lived in Harlem for just a few months after I was born before moving to a housing project in The Bronx by Throggs Neck. We lived there until I was five years old.
