Uno Chicago Grill® Responds to Economic Squeeze With Money-Saving Tips for Dining Out

BOSTON, MA – With less money and time available for dining out, leading national restaurant chains are evaluating their offerings and finding new ways to embrace and identify with their customers. As one of the nation’s more popular casual dining chains, Uno Chicago Grill® is offering some suggestions to consumers who want to save money, but still enjoy dining out.

“One look at the headlines tells us how tough it is today. At Uno Chicago Grill, we want to be responsive to the time and money challenges that our guests are facing. We’re doing that by creating options that help our guests reclaim some of their leisure time and enjoy dining out for less,” says Richard Hendrie, senior vice president of Uno Chicago Grill.

Tip #1: Try Eating in the Lounge or Bar Area

Many restaurants offer special smaller-portion menu items in the bar area. This serves two purposes: it creates a low-cost dining option while also helping to accommodate guests who may be too busy to enjoy a typical lunch or dinner hour.

For Uno®, this meant taking the familiar ‘happy hour’ concept and turning it into Snack Hours® -- a solution to help its loyal lounge customers enjoy smaller portion ‘bites’ out without taking too big a bite out of their budget.

The Snack Hours menu provides a strong value, with every item priced either $1.99 or $2.99. Choices range from burgers, to Shrimp and Crab Fondue, to Tuscany Bread, or Uno’s famous Deep Dish or Pizza Skins®. Most locations have designated the Snack Hours between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to closing, Sunday through Friday.

Tip #2: Enjoy your “Just Desserts”

Dining out doesn’t have to mean a full dinner. Why not treat yourself to dessert and/or a specialty coffee? More and more restaurants are offering dessert specials. For Uno, this means a wonderful choice of $1.99 Mini Sweets like Uno’s Mini Macadamia Nut White Chocolate Chunk Deep Dish Cookie Sundae, Mini Hot Chocolate Brownie Sundae, and Mini All American Hot Apple Crumble.

Tip #4: Come for Lunch Instead of Dinner

A recent survey of American workers by the Center for Work-Life Policy found that 21 percent of respondents said they work at least 60 hours a week under highly-stressful conditions, while high gas and grocery prices continue to put the financial squeeze on American consumers. Many restaurants now offer lunch specials that feature smaller portions with a quick turnaround, which works for those pressed for time, while helping consumers save money. For example, Uno Chicago Grill features Ten-n-Ten lunch specials, ten lunch specials served within ten minutes. The specials come with all you can eat soup or house salad to ensure guests never leave hungry.

Tip #5: Take it To Go
