WHAT: The April 7th Celebration of Uno’s® 30th Anniversary and the first Uno location to open outside of Chicago! Join Uno CEO Frank Guidara, Founder and Chairman Emeritus Aaron Spencer, COO Roger Zingle, Mayor Thomas Menino, and local Manager Bryan Goldie as they blow out 30 candles on a special deep-dish pizza to celebrate the Boylston Street restaurant’s anniversary. The Mayor will present a special anniversary proclamation declaring April 7 “Uno Day.”
The celebration will feature a day of special activities in the Boylston Street restaurant. The first 30 guests arriving for lunch at the Boylston restaurant -- beginning at 11:00 am -- will receive free ‘Pizza for a Year,” which consists of one free pizza per month for 12 months.
Boylston and the five other Greater Boston Uno locations (Huntington Avenue, Kenmore Square, Allston, Harvard Square and Porter Square in Cambridge) will feature other exciting celebration giveaways. For example, every 30 minutes at dinner, a randomly chosen guest will receive a coupon for a free entrée on their next visit, while guests who are celebrating their 30th birthday and show proof (birth certificate or license) will also receive a free entrée. Everyone who joins in on the fun in these restaurants will receive a free birthday dessert treat on the 7th, as well as a ‘goodie bag’.
WHY: Uno Chicago Grill® is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of its first restaurant outside of Chicago, in Boston, MA, thanks to Aaron Spencer, a man of long standing success in business and in service to the community. This 30th anniversary celebration at the Boylston Street location coincides with the chain’s 65th Anniversary overall. Uno, the creator of Chicago’s iconic deep dish pizza, opened its first location -- at 731 Boylston Street – on April 5, 1979.
The company, headquartered in Boston, now boasts over 44 locations in New England and has expanded to over 200 locations worldwide. Spencer, a Boston native, was first introduced to Uno’s deep dish pizza during a trip to Chicago and quickly saw its potential. He approached Pizzeria Uno’s founder, Ike Sewell, asking for the right to take the brand national. Initially Sewell resisted, but Spencer’s charm, business acumen and persistence finally won him over.
