The former director of cultural affairs for the city of San Antonio, Texas, Eduardo Diaz, has been chosen as the new director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Diaz's appointment was announced Thursday by state Cultural Affairs Secretary Stuart Ashman. The center's board of directors had unanimously recommended Diaz following a national search.
"Mr. Diaz's wide ranging experience as an arts agency director, media producer, fundraiser and actor will serve us well as he leads in the further development of our premiere Hispanic Cultural Center,'' Ashman said. Diaz replaces Tom Chavez, who retired earlier this year after being with the center since April 2002. Diaz will start his new job Aug. 1.
