DIA is committed to developing and sustaining a highly qualified workforce in the key Department of Defense Resource Management disciplines. This accelerated program is designed to develop our participants in leadership and in providing them the right resources and tools so that they are capable of integrating and analyzing financial data to provide predictive value to our decision makers.
This program provides high performing college students with a high quality 2-year professional experience related to-and complementary with-your formal education in a business-related academic discipline. This is a professional program designed to develop the requisite skills of an integrated financial management workforce. During the 2-year training period, you will develop core competencies in all aspects of financial management, to include program development and evaluation, budget, accounting, finance, and other resource management functions.
Your participation in this program should be viewed as a critical opportunity to assess and develop your financial management skills and interests. You will be treated as a financial management professional that is able to contribute positively to the Financial Executive mission area to which you will be assigned.
Initially, you will be assigned to a "host office" with an assigned supervisor and mentor. You will be given a combined training/work plan that describes learning objectives and skills to be attained, as well as tasks that you will be expected to complete. An Individual Development Plan will also be developed with your supervisor, which will guide assignments and special projects during the 2-year period. After the initial 12 months in the "host office" you will rotate into another Financial Executive or Financial Executive satellite office. We do this to broaden your skills and expand your understanding of interrelationships in the multi-faceted elements of financial management.
During the 2-year training period, you will:
Receive an orientation to DIA;
Work 40 hours per week in support of Financial Executive;
Be assigned a mentor/supervisor;
Rotate through several Financial Executive offices;
Receive on-the-job and/or formal training in all aspects of financial management areas.
During the period of the fellowship, we expect you to be prompt, to respond positively to assignments and duties given to you, and without hesitation, ask questions of your supervisor, co-workers, and mentor when you are unsure of what is expected of you. At the mid-term of the fellowship and at its conclusion, we expect you to respond to a series of questions about your experience working in DIA/Financial Executive. We may additionally ask you to complete a formal exit interview with senior DIA officials to help them gauge the effectiveness of this program.
