Center opens to look at Hispanic health topics

A research center to explore health disparities among Hispanics, especially when it comes to obesity, diabetes, mental health and geriatrics, opened Monday at the Stanton Building, 1100 N. Stanton, Texas.

The Hispanic Health Disparities Research Center is a collaboration between UTEP and the University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center. It is funded by a $4.1 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities. The center will mentor and train researchers focused on the causes and effects of unequal health and health care for Hispanics.
