Former Honduran President Zelaya throws a fit

Deposed Honduran President Manuel Zelaya is getting more and more frustrated with his ally, the Obama Administration. He stated today that "The United States has weakened in the face of the dictator." The "dictator" he is describing is interim President Roberto Micheletti.

Interim President Micheletti and Former President Zelaya reached an agreement on October 30th. The US supported this agreement. The Presidential Election is set for the 29th of this month and neither Zelaya or Micheletti are… Continue

Zelaya returns - prepare for violence in Honduras

Things just got more interesting and dangerous in Honduras.
Ousted President Manuel Zelaya has sneeked back into the country of Honduras. He is staying in the Brazilian Embassy. If you don't remember, he was removed by the Military in June after trying to pass an unconsititional amendment to the Honduran Constitution. He was facing presidential term limits and, following in the footsteps of his political ally, Hugo Chavez, he tried to amend the constitution.
The Congress said "no" but President… Continue

Honduras feeling the pressure

Here is the latest info on the situation of the diplomatic impass down in Honduras.
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias is attempting to negociate a breakthrough. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton called Interim President Roberto Micheletti over the weekend and spoke to him. Per the Globe and Mail newspaper, State Dept spokesman P.J. Crowley stated she “helped him understand the potential consequences of a failure to take advantage of this mediation.” In other words, make the deal or else.
No deal… Continue

Obama Administration supporting WRONG side in Honduras

When we heard that the Honduran military took over power in Honduras by taking President Zelaya to Costa Rica, the United States joined many countries in criticizing what happened. It seemed that the past methods of military juntas crushing democracies were rearing it's ugly head again.
However, there is more to this story than it seems. As in every story, let's go back to the beginning shall we?
In 2006, President Zelaya won a close presidential election. Similar to all Presidents, he did not g… Continue

Dear Roberto,

I just read you message. Please give your wife my best wishes - teaching children is so important. As for our NYCDOE public schools -our salaries are very competitive - starting salary with just a BA and no experience is at 45,000 - however what makes us particularily attractive is we do not sign annual contracts -once you are teaching if you hold satisfactory service you are automatically teaching again the followign year; addditionally we have amazing professional development and 1,500 schools to chose from with emphasis on encouraging teachers to be leaders; and finally we have a health benefits plan worth $ 20,000 - apart from this the living costs are reduced in many ways in NYC as you do not need a car to get around and you can find reasonable rentals in all the boroughs if you explore and are willing to keep an open mind. As for my travel...my father worked for CARE -so that caused the movement...and as for our competitiveness I think we have hope that this next generation will be maybe more focused as we slowly turn away from a "me"centered "I" centered culture and move towards community - also this economy I bleieve will make us have more of an emphasis on education and skills building...but we are not where we could be ...and we need to invest more time in this area.
