Hi RIG GAL,
I am happy to hear that you liked the blog I posted on saving time and money by hiring and event planner and would like to post it on your website. I'm sure your a fantastic DJ with a tremendous amount of experience. However, I typically endorse vendors that I know personally and have worked with in the past. Can you send me information about your services?
Gracias por la respuesta. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the compliment and invite to your mixer in S.J. tonight. I hope it's a successful one. I hardly get down to the South Bay area anymore. The only time that I am in that area is when I have to pick up someone at SFO or drop someone off. Most of the time I fly in or out of OAK.
I think that it was around October of 2002 when I was at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in S.J. for a dance and presentation of Son Boricua. After the long two hour drive down there, I was very disappointed to find out that the group performing was called Son Borikua (spelled differently) and that they were a dance group from Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley.
Nonetheless, after I was done with my venting about false advertisement, I settled in for a great night. The dance performance was exceptional and most educational, and the evening's Live entertainment was "Conjunto Alegre" from Vallejo.
This was the first time that I had seen them peform and since I'm half Puerto Rican, it was more exciting because I feel close to this side of my heritage when I'm around Boricuas. Moreso due to the fact that I spin Salsa!
I feel like now I'm rambling. Just wanted to thank you for the invite. I'm sure that someday I'll get down there. Until then, hope to keep the lines alive here on NSHP or via personal emails.
Wishing you a most joyous of Christmas'. God bless.

The excitement stirred as the day completed it's first hour. The call came in at approximately 1:00 am as George Rodriguez awoke to answer the phone, finding Angel Justiniano on the other end of the line, apologizing for calling at the late hour.
"Congratulations" was the message from one member of New Swing Sextet ( http://www.myspace.com/newswingsextet ) to his band's director.
From that point on, the conversation would include that Willy Torres had just informed Angel that New Swing Sextet's recently released album...
"Back On The Streets - A Taste of Spanish Harlem Vol 2" had been nominated for a GRAMMY! ( http://www.grammy.com )
"But didn't the Grammy's just happen about a month ago?" asks George. "Not the Latin Grammy, the International Grammy!" replies Angel.
Whoaaaaaaaaaaah! Congratulations and then some!!! Wepa brothers!!!

The process begins with members and record companies submitting entries, which are then screened for eligibility and category placement. The Academy's voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the final voting process which determines the GRAMMY winners.
Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process.
Reviewing sessions by more than 150 experts in various fields are held to ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields such as Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Gospel, New Age, Rap, Classical and Latin, among others. The purpose of screenings is not to make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but rather to make sure that each entry is eligible and placed in its proper category.
First-round ballots with lists of eligible recordings in all fields, except those voted on by special nominating committees, are sent to voting members who return their ballots to the independent accounting firm of Deloitte for tabulation. To help ensure the quality of the voting, members are directed to vote only in their fields of expertise; they may nominate in the four general categories (Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 31 fields on their ballots.
Committees In craft and other specialized categories, final nominations are determined by national nomination review committees comprised of voting members from all of The Academy's Chapter cities.
Lists of the finalists are sent to voting members with their second round ballots. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included on these lists. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight of the 31 fields. Ballots again are tabulated in secrecy by the independent accounting firm, Deloitte.
Results of members' voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.
If you haven't had the genuine pleasure of listening to this recording, May I humbly suggest that you walk, drive, or ride yourself to the nearest music store you can find and purchase it. It's well worth the time and effort to do so.
I've had the privilege of helping to promote the cd and was elated when it finally hit the streets. It was a very long and anticipated wait, but the finished result, packaging and presentation also made it worth waiting for. Emusica/Cotique, along with everyone who was involved in getting this project on the streets, did an outstanding job!
I'm besides myself with excitement for George, Angel, Cheo, Harry, Hector, Joe & Tomas! It's been quite a thrilling ride that we as Dj's have shared as this project unfolded and I'm sure I speak for many of us here in the states and around the world, that "This truly couldn't have happened to a nicer group of guys".
Congratulations on such a great honor and auspicious occasion. We love you New Swing Sextet and wish you much success.
Best of luck on winning this Grammy... the first time!
By the way, the photo of the elderly woman, deep in thought was worthy of being on the cover of National Geographic or even Times! Well, that's my opinion and who knows what that's worth! Lol. Great picture.
Saludos Rig Gal,
Thank you for sharing such great images. I enjoyed viewing your photos. would you mind if I used a couple on my website? I was particulary attracted to the photo taken at night of the Bay Bridge and SF. Pretty awesome photographs.
Please let me know if I have your permission. Thanks again.
