Marketing and communications professional with 20 years experience working in journalism, filmmaking, and social marketing.

Comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels. Most recently worked in the public sector, serving as Spanish guru for Texas largest social services agency and gained expertise in promoting federal programs including Medicaid, Food Stamps, S-CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), and Temporary Relief for Needy Families (TANF).

Excellent communications skills in English and Spanish. A native Spanish speaker with extensive experience working in Latino markets.

Skilled in “plain language”—a literary style that targets the reading skill of the intended audience. Attended Plain Language for Government Writing training by the Center for Plain Language. Used principles in both English and Spanish language communications.

I'm an American of Mexican descent whose family has been in South Texas since it was Mexican territory. I grew up in Laredo, TX, a uniquely bilingual/bicultural border city.

Books and films are my passion. I'm also interested in screenwriting and am at work on two spec scripts -- a teen comedy set in San Antonio, TX and a TV pilot about the music scene in Austin. In my spare time, I like to learn languages. I'm currently seeking a Greek class in Los Angeles.
