about me
Mario Treto, Jr. serves the City of Evanston as an attorney focusing on compliance, transactional, and corporate matters. As the lead attorney of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Plan Commission, Board of Local Improvements, Preservation Commission, Administrative Adjudication/Review, he provides counsel for each entity. Treto collaborates with City departments, including Community Development, Public Works, Police, Fire, Parks & Recreation, and Health & Human Services. He prosecutes traffic/ordinance violations in Cook County Circuit Court, authors City legislation, reviews municipal agreements, evaluates property tax exemptions & bills, and works with staff regarding code enforcement and business/liquor licensing.

Prior to his role with the City of Evanston, Treto worked at a Chicago firm focusing his law practice in Commercial & Residential Real Estate, Corporate Law, and Commercial Transactions. Treto provided his clients with legal counsel, such as advising businesses on entity formation, statutory compliance, and arranging agreements between parties. Clients consisted of international companies, Chicago-based corporations, music venues and festivals, and charter schools. During law school, he worked as a Summer Associate at Lewis, Rice & Fingersh in St. Louis, Missouri and Faegre Baker Daniels in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a Law Clerk for Duke Energy.

In addition to his practice, Treto serves on various nonprofit, law school, and organizational boards. He is the Howard Brown Health Board of Directors Chairperson, Hispanic National Bar Association Deputy Regional President, and Maurer School of Law Latino Alumni Board Vice-President. He has been named a "Top Lawyer Under 40" by the Hispanic National Bar Association and the National LGBT Bar, and a "Top Latino Leader Under 40" by Hispanic business publication, Negocios Now. Treto is an alumnus of Washington University in St. Louis and the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. He is fluent in Spanish.
