- I am the founder of SixDegrees networking group targeted at diverse professionals in Las Vegas.
SixDegrees came to fruition in October of 2007 and surpassed over 200 members within it’s first year. Developed by Lauren Burke Bennett, a Human Resources consultant who saw a need for a professional networking group for a diverse audience.
Burke Bennett, who has over 15 years of grass roots and corporate staffing experience, has a knack for connecting people. The concept of SixDegrees was to connect people much like infamous Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. SixDegrees provides the platform for Las Vegas professionals to connect with one another but also provides a social aspect. SixDegrees hosts monthly Cocktails & Connections mixers where professionals can mingle with each other over a cocktail. “I’m trying to revolutionize the idea of the traditional interview. I want to take away the stuffiness of the office environment and introduce candidates to employers in a casual space for them to truly be able to showcase their personalities.” The key is to get employers who value diversity to come out to these events and meet potential candidates.
