HA HA HA good one Janelle. I never knew speed Spanish existed. It took me years (and I am still learning) to become advanced in speaking, reading and writing the language. Then, the dudes at work started teaching me all the slang. Talk about brain...

Wonderful to know you too! I love reading about styling and the evolution of fashion; I've exausted my entire public library branch reading things like, "Glamour's Do's and Don'ts" (which is more entertaining) to "Lucky's Guide to Style". These types of books are perfect for unwinding while engaging the mind a bit. If only we didn't have the propensity to dress chicly inside our minds...we would be turning quite a few heads ourselves.

Hey there! Hope all is well! Other than Kindle, how can I purchase a copy of your latest novel! Would love to read it! Best, Christine

Speed Spanish, anyone?

I've been keeping busy writing my books, but I found time to get into some real trouble with an online Speed Spanish course. I thought I could learn a little and have some fun. I thought it would be a piece of cake. Well, it was--yellowcake (nuclear waste). This instructor was serious! Somehow, when I read Speed Spanish, my brain translated it to Party Spanish. Not!

What to do? What to do? Well, I did get through the course, and pulled an A+, but my brain deletes languages fifteen minutes after… Continue

A fun way to improve language...

Does anyone out there have time to play? A few blogs ago, I commented about how much trouble I was having picking up Spanish. I'm very disciplined when I write, but I have little or no discipline when it comes to languages. Maybe that's because there's no human interaction.
This is what I'm thinking: an email experiment where messages would be about 100 characters long...shorter than Twitter. To reciprocate, I would help with 100 characters of yours in English. There would be no timeline. No pre… Continue

I'm gonna need a bigger boat!

Remember that line in the movie Jaws, when the shark takes a big bite out of the boat and one guy says to the other, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” I’ve always loved that line.
With this economy, I’ve decided I need a bigger boat. Maybe you do too. I’m still thinking on this, but I have a few ideas that might help:
Network more- I’ll probably do a lot of this because it’s fun, and writers spend way too much time alone.

Increase my knowledge-President Obama, in his first speech to Congress a… Continue

Fun Saturday!

I don't get out much, so I really enjoyed my Saturday as a guest author at a local college. I hardly noticed it was snowing (again!) when the day was over. Our area (Puget Sound) is supposed to be a rain forest. Oh, yeah? my rhodies and camellias are so cold they're dropping their buds, and I haven't got the heart to look at my canna bed.

It's a good day to make a fire and write a new novel---set someplace that's a lot warmer with palm trees and bougainvillea. Wait a minute. This is how my last… Continue

Why am I here?

I found this site when I was searching for news on my cousin, Hollywood actor Rudy Ramos. I'm not sure if I belong--feel free to kick me off!

As an independent writer, I am always searching for ways to reach my readers. I have not been able to reach Hispanic readers, and it bothers me because I think Hispanic women would really like my books. Sample chapters can be read on my www.JanelleMerazHooper.com website. If you read them, write to me! Note: My newest book, Bears in the Hibiscus, is not b… Continue
