I am an aspiring educator who wishes to contribute the knowledge and skills acquired through several years of study in the Human Services, Foreign Language, and Education departments at Old Dominion University and the study abroad program at Universidad Veritas to an entry-level position seeking new talent.
Throughout my academic career, I have been enrolled in several courses which have equipped me with a number of aptitudes essential to the workforce. Some of the aptitudes acquired are the ability to communicate effectively, multi-task, take initiative, develop interpersonal relationships and complete basic administrative responsibilities.
It is through my work experience that I have been able to apply said knowledge to real life situations. I have worked with the Columbia Heights Youth Center, in Washington, DC, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of troubled youth through after-school and summer programs. As both a counselor and the receptionist I was given many responsibilities. I assisted with homework, conducted a specialized reading comprehension program, facilitated a young ladies self-esteem workshop, maintained relationships with parents, and provided special assistance for Spanish-speaking clientele. Through this program I gained knowledge which enabled me to have a better understanding not only of youth needs but community needs as well.
While working for Allstate Insurance Company, I gained an extensive knowledge on customer relations and professionalism. As the first point of contact for all clients, I effectively created a welcoming environment, maintained an extensive knowledge of all promotions, addressed customer concerns, received payments, maintained an orderly appearance of the workspace, and provided exceptional customer service. It is due to this experience that I developed a tremendous appreciation for administrative responsibilities and customer service.
Furthermore, working as a free-lance Spanish tutor, I was challenged with entrepreneurial responsibilities. I produced marketing strategies, scheduled appointments, organized and created teaching materials, provided light childcare, managed finances, and delivered an environment conducive to learning. As a result of this experience my passion for education has been cultivated into a determination to impact lives through teaching.
While working and volunteering with several organizations, I have learned numerous abilities that I believe qualify me for various positions. I am a hard working individual, with a kind heart and joyful spirit that under the right leadership is bound to flourish into a valuable member of the workforce.
what is your current, past or ideal job title?
My ideal job would be one in where I was challenged daily to think outside the box and use the knowledge that I have acquired over the course of both my academic and professional careers.

I am a native speaker in both English and Spanish although English is my dominant language.
what countries have you lived in?
I have lived in Washington, DC, Arlington, VA, Norfolk, VA, Silver Spring, MD, and Cheltenham, MD in the United States. I have also lived in San Jose, Costa Rica.
