Profile Information

about me
Having managed and promoted my own retail business as well as having worked as a development consultant for a nonprofit organization have provided the experience and maturity necessary for a position in government and/or the Tourism Department. My skills, enthusiasm and experience make me a strong candidate for a government position.

Throughout my career I have focused on developing marketing strategies and product development. I have made extremely valuable contacts with both top donors and retail clients. I worked as a Special Events Manager at El Museo del Barrio on Fifth Avenue in New York City and promoted the Yearly Gala and main fund-raising activities associated with the latest exhibitions, as well as the Puerto Rican cultural life in both Puerto Rico and it’s diasporas. We showed good taste, hard work and cultural enrichment. Founded by Puerto Rican teachers and activists, it has evolved to become the premier Latin American museum in New York City and the tri-state area in the last 5 years.

I planned the yearly gala at El Museo del Barrio, rented the museum for private events, worked with decorations, planned menu’s and dealt with the overall organization of events held at el Museo. Some of the events held: Mayor Bloomberg celebrations for the Latino community, Senator Clinton’s reception for the introduction of her Spanish biography, Angel Collado-Schwart’s introduction of his books to the NY media and market, events for the Ford Foundation, the inaugural dinner for members of the Board of the Museum of Modern Art when El Museo del Barrio inaugurated MoMA AT EL MUSEO: LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN ART FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART. Board Members included Mayor Bloomberg, Sen. Charles Rangel, Mr. David Rockefeller, Agnes Gund, Patricia Cisneros, etc.

I was hired as a consultant, by the Board of Directors, in March 2002 to open the Museum Shop in time for the Gelman Collection: Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Twentieth Century Mexican Art which ran from April 28 through September 30, 2002, helping the museum achieve the highest visitor volume in its history: 65,000 visitors. During that time the store achieved record-breaking sales and continues to do well. I also did the product research for the different exhibitions.

In January 2002, I sold my interest in E.H. Shehab Co., Inc., a women’s apparel retail corporation in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City. I have extensive marketing and retail as well as public relations experience and have organized press initiatives, produced marketing materials and coordinated product exhibitions both in my own business and during my years at American Airlines Caribbean Sales in New York City.

I was also crucial in the sales effort that eventually made American Airlines the biggest Carrier in the Caribbean region through hard work, great promotions and marketing, excellent passenger service and teamwork. I worked very closely with Peter J. Dolara, Vice President, Latin American and Caribbean Region.

I am people-oriented, creative, enthusiastic; a good listener. I believe in common sense, have excellent public relations skills, a great taste level and can appreciate “value” in products. I believe my background in retail, development and marketing make me a strong candidate for a position in government.
