With more than a decade of experience as a Chief Executive in the payment processing and electronic payments industry, Dr. Alex Hemmat has led Card One International as its Chairman and CEO since 1999. He assumed this role during the integration of Cardready West and Card One International. Dr. Hemmat previously served as President and COO of the former Cardready West .
In his pursuit to create a new standard of quality and service in the world of electronic payment systems, and recognizing the rapid growth rate and consumer demand for alternative payments, he established the payment gateway Charge1 in 2007—an online gateway allowing merchants to accept payments anywhere in the world via the internet.
Dr. Alex Hemmat serves on the advisory board of SABEResPODER, a uniquely targeted Spanish-Language Media Network and the leading provider of comprehensive and practical educational solutions for Latinos in the United States. He also volunteers his time to mentor ‘at-risk’ youth every summer at UCLA’s Migrant Scholars Leadership Program.
An advocate for small businesses, Alex Hemmat is an active investor in restaurant start-ups. He is a shareholder in Tinto Tapas España, a Spanish Tapas Restaurant located in West Hollywood and awarded best restaurant in 2008 by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing and Economics from Loyola Marymount University, and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from UCLA.
