Hispanic professional society & diversity job fairs at NSHP.org

The number of people claiming unemployment insurance fell last week down to 6.76 million, breaking a pattern of 21 consecutive hikes since January 2009. This is an indicator that layoffs may be decreasing, along with the unemployment rate, which was listed at 9.4% in May.

Some experts are even stating that economic activity rose during the month of May, another first positive indicator in the last 7 months; which if continued, could result in a "slow recovery" of the economy by the end of 2009. Click here to view the complete article.

Hi Ricardo,
I enjoyed reading your article. However, no matter how this administration and it's media cronies choose to spin it there is still a 9%+ unemployment rate and some say it will go past 10%. With less people in the workforce, it makes sense that the number of layoffs would be decreasing since some companies are cut to the bone. Add to that:
- the continually rising deficit and more programs coming increasing that deficit even more,
- discussion of more/increased taxes for all (no matter what they call them or whether they're hidden in fees like driver's licences auto registrations, etc.) like taxing health benefits, cap and trade, VAT leading to less money being pumped into the economy
- uncertain financial companies and stock market
- paying for a larger, growing, and increasingly intrusive government
Bottom line is that, in my opinion, any talk of "positive indicators" are entirely too premature. I believe that the American public needs to stop buying all the rhetoric and media fawning and wake up to what's really happening in this country and to Capitalism. I'm not normally a naysayer but I do believe we're moving entirely in the wrong direction and nobody is holding anyone's feet to the fire. Just look at the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) report on the proposed healthcare "reform".
Have a great evening.
Respectfully,
Art Calvo
