I don't see Sonia Sotomayer not becoming the first Latina as Supreme Court Justice. The math (and votes) seem to be on her side. It would be a proud moment. Nothing will take that away from her. (or us for that matter)
The only issue, maybe the more important issue is what kind of judge will she be? Will she be more of an "Activist" judge? One that will interpret the Constitution in a wider scale? Or be more of a follower of "Judicial Restraint" one that will interpret the Constitution more on the narrow side.
I think that she will be more pragmatic than people think.
I understand the fear a lot of Conservatives have about her, that she will be an "angry Latina", but I don't think that is her nature. As for the "Liberal" side of politics, I see her as more practical or reasonable than they will like. This too, will disappoint some. This would be a good thing.
While extremists on both sides won't be happy, most people are politically moderate in nature.
It will be an exciting time, that's for sure!
