Hispanic Business Magazine Celebrates the 7th Annual Woman of the Year in Houston - June 4, 2009
The rise to leadership positions and influence in politics, government and at major corporations by Hispanic women in recent years has been precedent-shattering. From roles in technology, energy, health care and construction to those in the U.S. Cabinet and the courts, women have overcome barriers and steadily taken their places at the table.
The 7th annual Woman of the Year Award Symposium and Gala will take place on June 4 in Houston, a vibrant Hispanic market and one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Top executives from all industries will convene and recognize women in business.

This year's WOY event will feature a panel discussions with Sandra Thompson, Law Professor, University of Houston; Felicity Fowler, Partner, Haynes & Boone, LLP; Laurie Carrillo, Spacecraft Thermal Design Engineer, NASA Johnson Space Center; Dr. Amelie Ramirez, Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Director of the Institute for Health Promotion Research, University of Texas Health Science Center; Col. In the evening celebrate with Woman of the Year, Inspector General of the US General Accountability Office, Francis Garcia- This first-generation Mexican-American who picked cotton and sugar beets; waited tables at a diner; and worked side by side with the white men as the first woman and Hispanic at accounting firm Arthur Andersen in Dallas. She also survived a serious car accident -- one that left her with broken bones and other major injuries.
Years of hard work and personal sacrifices ultimately led her to the nation's capital, where she has been Inspector General of the U.S. Government Accountability Office since 1996.
Among those in attendance are presidents, CEOs and CFOs of Hispanic Business Magazine top 500 companies, leading executives from nonprofits, political influentials and government leaders, and a host of other pivotal players in the business world.
The WOY celebration will include an evening gala at the luxurious Hilton Americas - Houston. Attendees will enjoy keynote speeches and networking with peers and mentors at the day and evening activities.
