The FOCIS Division of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)'s Homeland Protection and Preparedness Business Unit is currently seeking a Documents Manager to join their information technology team in Abingdon, MD. The role of the Documents manager will be to identify, capture and organize pertinent project knowledge, facilitate the best use of this knowledge, establish new knowledge flow patterns, and disseminate the information through the use of a web-based knowledge management portal (Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server).

Specific day-to-day responsibilities include:

Knowledge Capture
- work with project team and clients to identify critical project specific information,
- establish and document information transfer processes to ensure a consistent capture rate,
- identify existing patterns, or design and establish new workflow patterns, to facilitate either data capture or content transfer.

Information Design
- organize information in a way that is intuitive and accessible to users,
- work with IT team to develop navigation and interaction models to support the organization of information
- participate in user research to derive user goals.
- identify content metadata and configure search systems to optimize the return of relevant search results.
- work with IT team to develop proper navigational systems to help clients find and manage information more successfully

Procedure Development
-Develop/author procedures that codify the business rules governing the documents located on the Portal

Requirements:
-BS Degree in Library Science, Information Management or another technical discipline and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the Knowledge management/Content Management fields. BS degree preferred; additional years of directly experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
- Knowledgeable and confident working with web-based knowledge management systems (Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server preferred)
- Familiarity with search engine technologies (Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server preferred)
- Professional demeanor, willingness and ability to work closely with clients while identifying requirements and establishing new work flow patterns
-Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Please note this position will require some overnight and extended travel to be approximately 20% of the year.
